Summary

As Chief Pilot and Chief Flight Instructor, you will be responsible for developing and leading a team of skilled pilots and overseeing the day-to-day flight operations for the company.  Your role involves ensuring safe and efficient flight operations, collaborating with other company departments, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Chief Pilot Responsibilities

  • Directly manage company pilots, fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding crew members.
  • Work with the Director of Operations to formulate and monitor all crewmember training and conduct training as required.
  • Schedule crew members for training, operational flights, and other duties.
  • Maintain flight proficiency and act as the company safety and standardization representative, conducting flight checks.
  • Work closely with the Director of Operations and Director of Maintenance to address aircraft maintenance issues, coordinate inspections, and ensure aircraft availability.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Company’s charter operation and the FAA.
  • Ensure adherence with aviation regulations, company policies, and operating procedures.
  • Maintain record-keeping in accordance with FAA and company requirements.
    • Maintain and update the 135 Operating Specifications and General Operating Manual.
    • Maintain crewmember records.
    • Ensure flight logs are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Ensure aircraft documents, logs, checklists, publications, and databases are continually up to date.
    • Manage EFB program and ensure that tablets are functional and up to date.
  • Disseminate information to crewmembers regarding routes, airports, NOTAMS, NAVAIDS, company policies, and regulations.
  • Serve as Pilot in Command, and Check Airman if qualified.
  • Work with the Director of Operations to prepare and monitor the department’s budget.
  • Recommend changes in company policy, procedures, training, or equipment to the the Director of Operations.
  • Act on behalf of the Director of Operations in his absence only as specifically authorized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • The Chief Pilot may delegate some of these duties but retains overall responsibility.

Chief Pilot Required Qualifications

  • Current CPL
  • Current Class 1 Medical
  • 1000 hours PIC
  • 3000 hours Total Time
  • 500 hours Multi-Engine (PIC)
  • Strong understanding of and familiarity with Part 135 operating guidelines
  • Management experience
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt quickly
  • Well-organized, dependable, and self-sufficient
  • Previous Chief Pilot experience
  • Piston and turboprop aircraft experience (Navajo and King Air preferred)

Chief Flight Instructor Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall training and safety of students for the company’s Part 141 flight school.
  • Creating and implementing training programs and setting standards for flight instruction
  • Oversee the certification process for students, ensuring that all requirements are met before certification is granted.
  • Establish standards for flight instruction and ensure that all instructors meet these standards.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback and guidance as needed.
  • Ensure that all flight operations are conducted safely and in compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison between the flight school and the FAA.
  • Create and implement training programs that meet or exceed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards.
  • Conduct initial and recurrent standardization of flight instructors in accordance with FAR 141.
  • Perform progress checks, end-of-course checks, and student training record audits.
  • Monitor adherence to the approved Training Course Outlines.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry developments and changes in FAA regulations.
  • Maintain all record-keeping, including those that FAA and the company require.
  • Prepare, monitor, and execute the 141 School program budget.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to ensure the highest level of safety for all flight operations.
  • Supervise full-time and part-time staff, including approving schedules and assigning duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • The Chief Flight Instructor may delegate some of these duties but retains overall responsibility.

Required Qualifications for Chief Flight Instructor:

  • FAA CFI, CFII, and MEI Certification
  • Meet 141.35 Chief Instructor requirements for the private, commercial, instrument, multi-engine, CFI, CFII, and MEI courses of training
  • Previous Part 141 teaching experience required
  • Knowledge of the Cessna CTA desirable
  • Current FAA second-class medical
  • Training Fleet includes C152’s and C172’s. Must meet FAR & manufacturer’s legal weight & balance limitations for ALL aircraft listed here
  • Thorough understanding of FAA regulations and flight instruction standards
  • Passion for aviation and a commitment to student success

Physical Requirements for Chief Pilot and Chief Flight Instructor Roles

  • Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl
  • Able to sit without standing for long periods
  • Capable of lifting or moving items at different heights weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Able to adhere to the visual demands set in the medical standards established by the FAA
  • Able to hear clearly verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset with ambient aircraft and radio noise
  • Possess the stamina needed to work long days, on sequential days, with frequent changes in temperatures, climate, and weather conditions
  • Must be able to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively, and quickly in a confined environment
  • Must be able to sit in the pilot’s seat with the seatbelt and/or shoulder harness fastened without any modifications
  • Pass a background check and a pre-employment drug test.
  • Maintain a valid passport
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license
